Senior Poetry Comp

Congratulations to the people that got up and presented their poems at the Senior Poetry Competition today- there was some real tough competition and we certainly noticed your efforts in practicing and polishing your piece over the weekend. A special mention to our Room 7 class mates who got placings- Sarah was first for the Year 4's. Roy took out the Year 5 competition, but was closely followed by Jack E!

Hinuera School Triathlon

It was fantastic to see the effort that every Hinni Kid put in to our School Triathlon on Friday! Well done everybody!

Senior Swimming Sports

Well done to everyone for making our Senior School Swimming Sports a fantastic day. It was a successful day because everyone got involved and gave 100% in their races! The town pool is a long way but you can all be proud of your efforts. What were you most proud of? What did you find tricky? Comment below!

Year 4's projects!

While the Year 5’s and 6’s were at camp the Year 4’s worked super hard on posters about native animals . We had to gather information about the animal that we chose, like information about thier predators, what it eats and also do a big description about the animal too. Also, while the Year 6’s were away the Year 4’s had a big responsibility of doing all the jobs around Hinuera School.

Ohope Camp

Our Year 5 & 6 Ohope Beach Camp was a real success again this year with loads of exciting beach, water and bush activities being a hit. We were pleased to see our Hinni Kids getting involved and giving new things a try. A big thank you to parents who volunteered their time to be with us and of course thank you to Mrs Harrison, our amazing camp cook! Don't worry Year 4's, it's your turn next year!

Kahikatea 2016

Welcome back to Kahikatea 7's blog for 2016!

Last Day 2015!

It was our last day of school today and we went out with a bang. 

 It was a neat year and I am lucky to have spent it with such cool (crazy) kids like you lot. 

Some of you wanted a copy of these photos from today, so hopefully you can save these from here- any troubles email me and I can send them through to you :) 

Thank you all so much for the gifts and cards etc. I have been super spoilt and I have lots of chocolate to enjoy over the holidays! I have so much that I will definitely need to get my running shoes on too! :)

Bob the Possum’s Adventure!

Splat! Fall the bottle of L&P out of the trampers bag. Suddenly a possum peered from the side of a tree. His name was Bob the Possum. He stared at the L&P for a while. “What is that?” he thought to himself. 

He picked it up and hid it in the part of the tree where the branches start shooting out sideways. 

Soon a hunter came and found Bob. He scrambled up into the branches and hid. It wasn't long until the hunter gave up and went away. Bob was as happy as Larry!

He popped the cap of the L&P and drank it. The bubbles made his eyes water and his nose sting, but he still had a happy grin on his face. The hunter came back and shot Bob in the butt. Bob was bullet proof and sang "Toyota sale, shake your tail, Toyota sale!"

Bob was still alive! He jumped up and ran to the Toyota shop and got a  Toyota. Crash as he slammed the door. Bob cruised down the road into the sunset until.... Bob was a wanted possum!

This was for a stealing a Pavlova... or ten from the local bakery. The cops had known this for 2 years and had been searching for him. Bob drove his toyota to Auckland to take over and own the Sky Tower. Do to this, he thought   water bombs filled with L&P would do the trick. But he was broke and only had one   dollar to buy one L&P. Would this be enough?

Bob decided to get a job at a Tiki Carving shop to earn more money to buy L&P. Just as he had enough money, the cops finally stopped Bob while he was driving in his Toyota. So Bob stops his evil ways and snuck back into the forest for the rest of his days.

Kai Time!

It was neat to see you all becoming more confident in speaking Te Reo during our shared lunch today. 

Keep practising at home and if you're up for a challenge, maybe you could even teach your whanau!

Writing: My Paradise...

My Paradise

Lines zip out to sea hoping something will bite fresh meat off silver hooks before wading back into the shore.

The smell of fresh bark from towering palm trees ripens the cold air.

Sea spray soaks my hair as I dive into the freezing water.

A sticky ice block sits in my hand as drips dive down and lay on the warm sand.

Footprints are seized by the current and carried away out to sea while sandcastles on the shore rear miniature tidal waves floating up the shore.

Lemonade and sandwiches are hand out at family picnics on the beach.

A roar on the sand indicates that waves of the tide are crashing in.

Rays of the bright sun peer over white candyfloss clouds.

The palm trees stand guard giving shade over happy sunbathers.

Relaxed, quiet, restful,

Giant fish slowly approach me looking for food

People screaming on the beach, having a fun time

Coconut water dripping down my chin from my mouth

People in and out of the lagoon water

Coral washed up on the golden sand

Lonely dogs cruise up and down the seashore

Coconuts fall to the ground leaving little trace

Foot prints make a path leading down to the clear water

Colossal palm trees shot out of the ground

Waves crash up over each other onto the hot sand

Clear, warm, fun

Stoney rock pinching my flesh skin.

 Crabs clap in a menacing and exuberant way.

Snails hiding and spying on nasty seagulls

Camouflaged fish disappearing through the ancient waters

Sponge sea plants swaying 

Saying“Ahhh! I have a lot of ouchie boo boos!"

Mussels perching on the bony rocks

Mysterious sea weed waves side to side like a narrow hand yelling “Goodbye, see you again, maybe?”

Pointy, rough and rocky

The Rock Pools

My Paradise

Reckless waves burst against the crumpled sand.

Frantic fish dance around the soothing water, next to the aged brick wall.

Birds tickle my hand as they peck reluctantly at the tiny stale bread crumbs.

Sweet aromas of freshly bake biscuits run wild among the eventful streets.

Striding inside of a volcano, not certain if ‘Diamond Head’ was dead or alive.

Amusing, mini shuttles providing trips to every boy and girl.

Stacks of pancakes with a thick drizzle of a berry sauce, topped off with sweet, fragrant blueberries, luring every customer closer.

Fireworks soar into the sky as the stunning sunset slowly fades away.

Inquisitive monkeys scream us awake as well as all the other animals that were trying to force their eyes open.

Entertaining, enjoyable and pleasurable

Diwali Celebrations- By Shika and Jaskeerat

Today we celebrated Diwali in Room 7. Diwali is an Indian festival with candles and lights. We did this because we are celebrating this at home with our families and wanted to tell the class what Diwali is all about. We made a slide show to share with the class. We talked about what the beautiful clothing we wear and also what we eat. We even made some sweets for the class to have a taste of and to nibble on, so they know what sweets we make and what they are called. We have henna designs on our hands and arms that our aunties did.

Sharing our Kids for Kids songs at assembly was such a lovely way to end the week today, so well done for singing your wee hearts out!  Feeling super duper proud of all those soloists that sang too- I don't know if I would be brave enough to sing in front of that many people, so a big pat on the back to you!

House Dance Celebration

We enjoyed sharing our house dances at the Friday assembly. They came together really well and were all very unique. There was a big turn out of family and friends that came to see us, so we hope you enjoyed it. 

Remember to care for your t-shirts by either popping it in the dryer, or ironing them inside out to help set the paint. Remember to get someone to help you!

Shake Out!

We have been learning what to do if there was an earthquake and preparing for if a earthquake happened. To prepare we thought we would need things like water, first aid kits, canned food, blankets, matches, gas cooker and plates and cutlery stuff. If a earthquake happened we would Drop, cover, hold   and stay where we were until it stopped shaking.
Has your family got a plan for if an emergency happened?? It is something important to think about!
