Transparent Eggs

Our Science Question:

What happens when you leave an egg in vinegar or water? 

Hypothesis:

I think the egg might start to crack and maybe explode in front of us in the vinegar- Cruz

I think the egg might crack because of the pressure in the vinegar- Jack H

I think the egg would have bubbles on it while in the vinegar and maybe crack- Indie

I think the yolk will turn whiter and go soggy in the vinegar- Daniel 

I think the egg shell will go soft so you can peel it off, and the egg might go bouncy- Jaxon 

We are going to leave it over night, so we will have to wait and see! In the mean time, does anyone know what TRANSPARENT means?? ;)

Super Hero Persuasive Writing

Hunter

I’m like a hawk, gliding down and snatching villains up, they think I am there, but I am so fast that I am everywhere, watching them 24/7, day and night. I’m Agent Hawk and this is a once in a life time opportunity to pick me to join Marvel as the newest super hero. You better think fast and recruit me, or else I’m gone.

Alexis

Most people would agree that my time travel power is extremely helpful because I can go back to the past and find the sensitive side of the villain and turn them in to good people before they turn in to baddies. It would be good if we could go to the future and find out what to do next, well I can. Then I can see what has happened and what went wrong and fix it. So you need me on the team, Marvel.

Jaxon

Everybody knows that freeze breath would be a sensible choice of powers to have and luckily, for you, I have it. I know it is hard to believe but freeze breath is a power that only 0.1% of people have. This would be useful because I can freeze the villain and take all of the money that they had stolen and put it back in to the bank before he or she melts. It wouldn’t be very difficult to freeze the baddies car engine, all I would have to do is get close to the car and take a big deep breath and freeze everything inside of it.

Emma

Protecting the city is a specialty that a superhero with my power and personality could do. Infuriating villians, saving people of the world is something that I do best. Caring for the citizens, illuminating the world is an energetic super power that I have. Resilience is a thing I show a lot to residence of the universe. I show no fear, stealthily creeping in to villians hide outs, seeing silver plated gadgets, don’t put me off as I am so brave.

Protecting the town is my duty. We all know that a villain could attack at any time, so we have to be alert at all times. If a villain really annoys me, I will kick them out to space using my super strength. If a big object gets in my way, I will use my muscles to push it out of the way. It is a time to help citizens of the world, so nothing happens to them

Doesn’t everybody get annoyed when our super heros loose a battle. Everytime they loose, they let one villain get away. Don’t be in fear anymore my people, I am going to make a very good super hero. With my powers I can search the city above to see what villians are up to this time. With strength I can stop anything in my way by punching, pushing kicking and demolishing. With all powers combined, I am pretty amazing, so you really must hire me. 

Term 2!

We have made a good start to the term in K7 and we have been thinking, what better time to get in to our blog than now. We will use this blog to share our learning, so watch this space. Leaving a comment here or there is always a good idea, so feel free to do so :)

It is going to be another good term, with plenty of learning and growing lined up. What are you going to do to be the best that you can be this term??

Athletics

FACING THE PACK

Hesitatingly, I trek to the line,

My feet grip in the itchy grass.

I was nervous to complete the 200 metres,

I catch a glance at my eager contestants.

I seek the finish line far away, BANG!

Just then the race had started we were off.

Sprinting,speedily,heart racing,

I scampered past the others,

I dropped down to third place with my very last lap to go.

Getting close to the finish line

I sprint my heart out hoping to get a place.

THIRD!

Rowing machine

Striding up to the rowing machine

Crouching onto it.

My hands clutch onto the rope,

Staring at the screen.

GO!

Pumping, stretching, pushing, sliding,

Hands shaking like a rattle.

Arms stretching across again,

Puffing

Sweat drips down like a drink bottle leaking down my face

Legs wobbling, mouth gasping for air.

100metre comes onto the screen

Yay!

Feeling fatigued, I stumble away back to my seat.

Athletics

Tentatively, I crawled out of the shadows.

Shuffled up to the line.

Then clutched my vortex.

"When you’re ready," encouraged Mrs Hollier.

Sturdily, I swung my arm back

Then all of a sudden the vortex whistled through the air

4th place…

Once again I clutched another vortex.

This time, the vortex whistled like a bullet from a gun

First place.

Proud.

Kai Hauora

We are going to be learning all about kai hauora (healthy eating), so what better way than to learn to grow and care for plants? We all know veges are nutritious and tasty and even better when you can say you grew them yourselves. Mini Gardens have hit K7- watch this space!

Recorder with Mrs Gribble

We were the lucky class that learnt to play the recorder during music. We sound pretty good don't you think?!

Ag Day 2016

It was pretty cute to see you all with your animals on Ag Day. Well done to those who cared for and trained for a goat, calf or lamb! Also well done to those who successfully grew a spud!

Interschool Cross Country

Thankfully, the rain held out for cross country this afternoon and boy were there were some awesome runners!

How many of you managed to push on to the top of that big hill without stopping?! 

Book Fair

After weeks of hard work, it was pretty exciting to see our Book Fair displays come together! Well done to those who received commended or highly commended ribbons for your effort!

Book Character Day

Great effort Kahikatea! Your costumes all looked fantastical! We had Book Character day as part of our book week to not only celebrate the wonderful world of books, but  also to fundraise for our sponsor children Navin, from Cambodia and Michael and Tanzania. Who can you spot in our class picture? 

Visit from Dawn McMillan

We were lucky to have a visit from a wonderful NZ author, Dawn McMillan. She has written fun books such as Why do Dog's Sniff Bottoms? and Woolly Wally and more serious books such as Holy Socks and The Harmonica

Dawn read to us, answered our many questions and shared some extremely useful tips for writing.
