Visit to Whakawerawera Village

What a neat day we had in Rotorua checking out Whakarewarewa Thermal Village. We managed to dodge the rain and saw and heard some really interesting things, that will spark our learning back at school. A big thank you to our parents who provided transport and made the trip possible!

How fast can you say that tongue twister of a name?!

Enjoying the warmth coming off the rocks
Are you not too sure about the smell of Rotorua Lilly? ;)

The pools were steaming hot- just what we needed on a cool spring morning

Learning about the history of the village wharenui

The village vege gardens are raised, with pipes that run underneath so the air flows through. This allows the soil to cool down, otherwise the plants don't grow properly!

This Maori Microwave or also known as a Hangi is used all year round. It cooks enough food for 12 families!

Boiling hot water cooks the corn for the locals and the tourist

Doing the Hokey Pokey Maori styles!

Final photo before saying ka kite ano!

What other interesting things did you learn??

  4. I thought it was awesome, but it would be better if there was more to see. Apart from that I really enjoyed the Marae, and would like to go there again!
