Danny Macaskill- The Ridge

Check out this EPIC video of Danny Macaskill riding his mountain bike along the Cuillin Ridgeline in Scotland! What incredible skill and what incredible scenery.

We watched this as a writing prompt and the work we crafted was next level! Can't wait to edit and publish it so that we can share it all with you all!

I suppose this is an example of someone being their best and showing EXCELLENCE? How have you recently shown this weeks value of excellence?

We made our own reusable bags using old t-shirts!!

After a debate about whether plastic bags should be banned in New Zealand, it was clear that we all held a few different views on the topic. It was great that in the end we could agree that these t-shirt bags are really cool and could be a great alternative!

Metaphors to describe our family

In my Family
Dad is a tool fixing all of our problems
Mum is a pot of cowboy casserole steaming and bubbling over the monster size table
Ava is a hard-working pen constantly doing school work and hiding away in her bedroom
Summer is a teased piece of hair strolling in from the farm
Zuri is a robot constantly talking 24 seven
Shepherd is the mud that you find staining the grey carpet
Hadassah is that kind words that float around in your head
Hudson is a curled over lip that drops when he's hurt
Tabitha is an adorable piece of fluff spewing out laughs.
And that just leaves me… and I'm not telling.

By Indie

In our family:
Mum is the sandy coloured square of fudge, just waiting to be devoured by hungry monkeys.
She is the sassy pink dress, draped over a sweet supermodel.
She is the washing basket, willing to be emptied into the lonely washing machine.
And she is the earthquake that hits the town, destroying everything.

In our family:
Dad is the motorbike zooming up the drive, late.
He is the silly joke, wafting round the room, spreading laughter.
He is the old worn jersey, broken and dull grey.
And he is the angry voice, shouting at me to get out of bed.

By Jessica

In my Family:
Dad is the ball flying towards the try line while I say noooo!!!!!
He is spotlight searching the bush for eyes of the deer
And he is the gun blasting the possum out of the amber tree

In our Family:
Mum is a whisk spinning around like crazy in the bowl and forming a delicious, sticky mess.
She is the plaster sticking to my wrecked knee, after I’ve fallen off my bike.
And she is the iPad going into my hand when Dad is not home.

In our Family:
He is the bullet of the nerf gun just missing me when I jump.
Ruben is the fist smashing in to my face when he realises that I am winning the play fight.

He is the annoying voice hitting me with whiney words
By Conrad

In my family
My brothers, Leo and Brodie are the excitement in our family.
They are magic changing everything from fun to just a bit too rough.
They are the mess makers painting the table with food at dinner time.
They are the warmth in my blankets and duvet

Archie is the anchor and love of the family
He is the convincing booming bark, making us feed and play with him
He is the murderer who kills you with slobber
And he is the bulldozer, pushing me out of my own comfy bed

What happens to our waste?

We have placed a whole bunch of waste items in a tub, and buried it in soil.

How long do you think each of the below items will take to break down??

Winter writing

We wrote some wonderful sentences to describe winter....

The damp frosty grass begins to fade away as the sun starts to peek across the world on a cold morning

-         Alexis

Skeleton trees sway, bleak colours cover the land, tumbling down, transparent raindrops burst onto the cold dew.
-         Emma

After the sun goes down, the crispy and misty wind picks up. As it soars and howls through the freezing sky,
- Jack H

The tree leaves crackle and crisp until the bare tree sits there isolated. Waiting for the sun to come out. Waiting… waiting… waiting…
-         Hunter

Rough bare trees, damp as can be. Their leaves flaking off the branches, fluttering all the way down to the ground. Mist covers them and frosts them.

We are all super heroes!

How cool is our mixed media art!? We used bubble wrap to create the background, pastel for the super hero and we scratched black paint off the crayon to create our cityscape. They look bright and colourful on our classroom walls!

Science Fair!

We are pretty chuffed with our completed science displays! We all had different science experiments which we completed to learn about the scientific method and fair testing.

Transparent Eggs

Our Science Question:
What happens when you leave an egg in vinegar or water?

Hypothesis:
I think the egg might start to crack and maybe explode in front of us in the vinegar- Cruz
I think the egg might crack because of the pressure in the vinegar- Jack H
I think the egg would have bubbles on it while in the vinegar and maybe crack- Indie
I think the yolk will turn whiter and go soggy in the vinegar- Daniel
I think the egg shell will go soft so you can peel it off, and the egg might go bouncy- Jaxon

We are going to leave it over night, so we will have to wait and see! In the mean time, does anyone know what TRANSPARENT means?? ;)

Watch this space to see what really happens to the eggs!

Super Hero Persuasive Writing

Hunter
I’m like a hawk, gliding down and snatching villains up, they think I am there, but I am so fast that I am everywhere, watching them 24/7, day and night. I’m Agent Hawk and this is a once in a life time opportunity to pick me to join Marvel as the newest super hero. You better think fast and recruit me, or else I’m gone.

Alexis
Most people would agree that my time travel power is extremely helpful because I can go back to the past and find the sensitive side of the villain and turn them in to good people before they turn in to baddies. It would be good if we could go to the future and find out what to do next, well I can. Then I can see what has happened and what went wrong and fix it. So you need me on the team, Marvel.

Jaxon
Everybody knows that freeze breath would be a sensible choice of powers to have and luckily, for you, I have it. I know it is hard to believe but freeze breath is a power that only 0.1% of people have. This would be useful because I can freeze the villain and take all of the money that they had stolen and put it back in to the bank before he or she melts. It wouldn’t be very difficult to freeze the baddies car engine, all I would have to do is get close to the car and take a big deep breath and freeze everything inside of it.

Emma
Protecting the city is a specialty that a superhero with my power and personality could do. Infuriating villians, saving people of the world is something that I do best. Caring for the citizens, illuminating the world is an energetic super power that I have. Resilience is a thing I show a lot to residence of the universe. I show no fear, stealthily creeping in to villians hide outs, seeing silver plated gadgets, don’t put me off as I am so brave.

Ryan
Protecting the town is my duty. We all know that a villain could attack at any time, so we have to be alert at all times. If a villain really annoys me, I will kick them out to space using my super strength. If a big object gets in my way, I will use my muscles to push it out of the way. It is a time to help citizens of the world, so nothing happens to them

Gryff
Doesn’t everybody get annoyed when our super heros loose a battle. Everytime they loose, they let one villain get away. Don’t be in fear anymore my people, I am going to make a very good super hero. With my powers I can search the city above to see what villians are up to this time. With strength I can stop anything in my way by punching, pushing kicking and demolishing. With all powers combined, I am pretty amazing, so you really must hire me.

Term 2!

We have made a good start to the term in K7 and we have been thinking, what better time to get in to our blog than now. We will use this blog to share our learning, so watch this space. Leaving a comment here or there is always a good idea, so feel free to do so :)

It is going to be another good term, with plenty of learning and growing lined up. What are you going to do to be the best that you can be this term??
