Awesome 3D Art
This term we are learning about geometry and Miss Dagg insisted that we do geometry art by making 2D shapes look 3D. They are still a work in progress, but check them out.

The Seniors Waitomo Cave Adventure
We didn't take photos inside the glow worm cave because we were too busy enjoying the magical lights of the glow worms, but this is some of us just after the boat ride. We were all very impressed and wish we could go again!
Here we are at the Discovery Centre, where we learnt all about how the limestone caves were made hundreds of thousands of years ago.
We all got to test out our wriggling skills as we squeezed through the tiny cave
Some of us even got to stretch our legs right out!
Miss Dagg even managed to wiggle her way through
Luckily the rain held off for us to enjoy our day... and to sneak in a little play on the slide
We really enjoyed our bush Ruakuri bush walk as there was so much to see. Lilly even found a rock with a fossil in it.
Damon getting his share of droplets of cave water, which is said to be good luck
Looking down into a great big cave with a river rushing through!
Amazing building at Waitomo Caves
How lucky are we- two neat school trips in one term!! We still have lots of learning to do around the caves so keep posted as we might share some of our learning on here :)

The Stormy Night
If I was a storm…
I would howl and whistle and join the wind wildly whipping window shutters.
I would spit down hail and spread lightning into the dark valleys.
I would refuse to stop raining down little droplets of water covering the land in flood.
I would grumble and moan, snarl and clap as I tumbled through the sky.
By Daniel
Storm violently banging on my window
He raged around my house
Ploughing down trees and anything else in his path
Trampolines flew as the storm
Impatiently
circled around, searching for revenge
He frantically danced wildly with
rage
His face filled with fury and anger
Taking one last final howl
he stormed off
Defeated
By Olivia P
The storm was getting hungrier
With its grumbling tumbling tummy
It was chasing the cars down the narrow road
He was feeling angry and stormy
He was poking the houses
With fork lightning
Knocking door to door the storm crept
Finally he gave up
Leaving the destruction behind
Silence…

Dress Up Your Head Day
On Friday, we had "Dress Up Your Head Day" to raise money for our Cambodian sponsor child, Navin, who has recently turned 9 years old. The money we raised will help her with the things that she needs to get by every day, such as food, education, clothing and shelter. Check out all the crazy ways people dressed up their heads! Top effort K7!

The Hinni Kids Hobbiton Trip!
"Let's go on an adventure!!!
Hobbiton, here we come!"
Hinuera School
went on an adventure to the enchanting village of Hobbiton Movie Set. We saw 44
hobbit holes, Bag End, and the Party tree. You should have seen our dance
moves! What a party!! By the time we reached the Green Dragon, we were dying of
thirst. Luckily we were all shouted a sweet fizzy ginger beer to quench our
thirst before cramming in on the bus to come back to school.
By Kahikatea 7
We would have to crouch down to fit in some of these Hobbit Holes! |
Cheers! |

Creepy Crawly Caterpillars
Miss Dagg rescued some caterpillars from her garden as she thought they might be getting rather cold on these cold foggy nights we have been having. She brought them in to school this morning and we were lucky enough to catch one of them shedding their skin and turning into a chrysalis. We all huddled around the little table to watch this amazing transformation take place. What an exciting thing for K7 kids to witness!
Healthy Eating
Sugar, fat and fibre... These are some of the things we have been learning about during our healthy eating lessons with Nicola and Claire from Project Energize.
Last week we learnt lots about sugary drinks and today was all about which breakfast options are the best. What have you learnt that shocked you or interested you?? Share what you have learnt with everyone by making a comment below :)

Te Reo
We have been learning the days of the week in Maori. We like to say them out loud to help us remember them all.
Maybe I will quiz you in class to see if you can remember them, so get practising!

Basic Facts Games
Knowing our basic facts is really
important if we want to continue to make progress in our maths! I have noticed
that there are many of us that need some extra practise at these so I have
found some fun on line games for you to have a go at. Click the title to open
the link to the game.
Maths Facts Pro -See how many seconds it takes you to solve
every problem and get a summary of which problems you need to work on.
These websites also have loads of other
fun games too so check them out as well. If any of you would like extra
practise sheets at home, let me know as I can always print some out for you :)
I can't wait to see
loads of improvement in our basic facts! I also would love to hear all about
your favourite game!

Introducing.......
'Hinuera'
The Newest Kiwi Chick to hatch!
Sponsored by Hinuera School
Whakatane Kiwi Trust is hoping to be able to release Hinuera
on Easter Sunday- Sunday 20th April. It will be a public celebration held at Ohope
Beach School, so if you are free head along to be apart of this very special occasion!!
I hatched on the 3rd of March 2014 with no problems, and I weighed 250g.
I stayed in an incubator for two days before I was moved to a brooder. In the brooder I had the chance to stretch my legs and probe around in soil while I learnt to eat the artificial diet. Since us kiwi chicks hatch with such a large belly full of yolk, we feed off this for about a week before we need to start foraging for ourselves. We don’t need to be taught to probe for food in the ground by our parents as all our behaviour is instinctive, but usually we need some guidance to learn to eat the artificial diet!
I think I am a pretty good chick to raise and I’m learning to eat the food relatively quickly. I was in good condition at my five day health check and have been pretty active in my brooder so far. I am bright, alert and responsive but also tend to be a bit feisty and snappy! I’m beginning to reveal my personality too - I am usually a pretty placid chick.
Once I have learnt to eat the artificial food by myself and am growing well, I will be moved into an outdoor run where I will have lots of different burrows to choose from to sleep in during the day. But I will get the chance to forage amongst leaf litter and soil for live invertebrates.
It’s hard to tell if I am a boy or a girl at the moment, so before I am released, one of my feathers will be sent away so I can be sexed by my DNA! Once I have grown a bit more and shown to be doing well, I will be in the care of the Ohope Conservancy.

School Triathlon!!
The school triathlon was on Friday 4th April. We started with a bike ride, followed by a run and a refreshing swim before sprinting to the finish line! As you can tell by looking at the picture of Eric and Logan A, it was a pretty tough race but we PERSISTED right until the end. Well done to those who got involved, gave it their all and got points for their house!! :)
Challenge: Who can write a show not tell sentence about the triathlon?!
